Microsoft’s last CES keynote ends with a whimper

The Tweet Choir?  I caught the last 40 minutes or so of the Microsoft keynote at what will be their last CES and the choir was probably the most interesting all the while the lamest aspect of the keynote.

They demonstrated Windows 8 on the Samsung tablet, stating that they are working with partners to have Windows 8 on ARM processors as well.  It looks like this could potentially mean ARM based desktops, not just tablets.  Otherwise, nothing new was really shown about Windows 8 that hasn’t already been demonstrated from the BUILD conference.

There were demonstrations of speaking to the Xbox and navigating around the menus and searching for content to play.  The stream I was watching was blanked out due to copyright but came back a few minutes later (they were playing clips from a movie).

Sesame Street was highlighted when a child was brought on stage to interact with the Xbox Kinect.  I suppose this is attractive to young children, but really wasn’t a game stopper for me.  Ballmer also announced Kinect for Windows coming February 1, 2012.

As Ars Technica pointed out, this was less of a keynote and more of an infomercial.  Nothing earth shattering was announced, no “ah ha” moments or anything to that extent.  It was pretty boring and a poor testament to a company such as Microsoft for their very last CES.

Did you see the Microsoft CES keynote?  What were your thoughts?
