As reported by BGR, Google has announced it will buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. This could definitely put them in a better position to compete with Apple. And it could explain why Google didn’t really mind losing out on the Nortel patent bid (even if they said they were disappointed by the outcome). The transaction has been approved by the boards of both companies.
Larry Page, Google CEO stated,
“Motorola Mobility’s total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies. Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers. I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers.”
Curiously, I have to wonder how the other Android vendors feel about this? The deal should be completed by the end of this year or first part of 2012.
