Amazon announced their new tablet, the Kindle Fire. It’s seems to be based on the design of the RIM Playbook, which did not perform well at all in the market. However, this is Amazon and everything they touch turns to gold, right? We’ll see if that happens with this product.
It’s has a 7″ multi-touch display with a 1024×600 display. Internal storage weighs in at 8GB. An odd part of the announcement was the introduction of a new browser that runs, so far, only on the Kindle Fire. It’s called Silk and it uses Amazon EC2 instances to attempt to speed up rendering of pages, images, etc.
Amazon’s target for this device doesn’t seem to be entirely at the iPad market, but possibly somwhere in between. The Kindle Fire will be available on November 15, 2011 but you can pre-order today.
